Director and Title IX Coordinator
Ricardo Alcaíno is the Director for the Office of Equal Opportunity and Sexual Harassment/Title IX Compliance. Ricardo is responsible for sustaining and strengthening the University’s faculty and staff affirmative action personnel program, in addition to having compliance oversight of Title IX regulations, investigations, and education, as well as other University non-discrimination policies for staff, faculty, and students. Ricardo oversees the development and distribution of the UCSB Affirmative Action Plan, and works with senior administrators and department chairs and directors to ensure that UCSB complies with university, state and federal policies and regulations regarding affirmative action and equal opportunity in hiring and promoting staff and faculty members. Ricardo has 20 years of experience in conducting discrimination and harassment complaint investigations, in developing and delivering diversity and sexual harassment training, and in developing and implementing affirmative action plans and non-discrimination policies. Ricardo earned an M.P.A., with Pi Alpha Alpha honors, from the University of Southern California, and a B.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from California State University Fullerton. Ricardo previously served as the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Employment Practices at California State University Monterey Bay, and also directed and/or staffed similar programs at the City of Santa Cruz and the City of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Associate Director & Sexual Harassment Officer
Ariana Alvarez, a Santa Barbara native, is the Associate Director and Sexual Harassment Officer in the UCSB OEOSH/TC. Ms. Alvarez's experience includes 14 years of EEO investigations, testing and training in the areas of public accommodations, insurance, fair housing, franchise investment and government employment. Ms. Alvarez provides service in the areas of complaint resolution, EEO research & analysis, preventative education and maintenance of records. In consultation with the Director/Title IX Officer, Ms. Alvarez facilitates resolution for discrimination complaints. This process entails complaint intake, assessment and suggested appropriate remedies; some of which include investigations, policy updates & distribution, training and documentation of the reported behaviors. Ms. Alvarez is actively involved in each phase of this process and assists the Director in other campus-wide programs that address discrimination, harassment & retaliation on the basis of protected class status.

Senior Discrimination Complaint Analyst
Kristen Gibson is the Senior Discrimination Complaint Analyst for the Office of Equal Opportunity & Sexual Harassment/Title IX Compliance; she has been with the University since August 2007. Ms. Gibson is the OEOSH/TC’s principal complaint investigator, providing service in the areas of complaint intake, assessment and suggested appropriate remedies, which may include investigation, policy updates and distribution, training and documentation of the reported behaviors. Ms. Gibson is directly involved in each phase of this process and assists the Director and Associate Director in other campus-wide programs that address discrimination, harassment and retaliation on the basis of protected class status.

Senior Sexual Harassment & Diversity Education Analyst
Carol joined UCSB in January 2007 after working for almost 20 years in the private sector as an in-house training manager and consultant, as well as an organizational development consultant. Carol's training experience includes presenting training to all levels of employees in the areas of sexual harassment awareness and diversity. While Carol's primary focus is the administration of the University's AB 1825 mandated sexual harassment awareness and prevention training program for supervisory and faculty staff, she is available to provide sexual harassment prevention training to other UCSB campus groups including student workers, student run groups, and non-supervisory staff. Additionally, Carol is working to develop diversity training for the campus and is collaborating with other departments on diversity training projects.

Senior Equal Opportunity Analyst
Elizabeth Rogers came to our office in November 2009 from Human Resources where she worked in the compensation unit for five years. In her new role in our office, she is responsible for upholding the University's Affirmative Action compliance status with State and Federal regulations with respect to Academic and Staff employment. She designs and produces ad-hoc and annual statistical analyses for the Federal Government, Office of the President, Senior Leadership, investigations and various campus groups. In addition to data management, she monitors affirmative action and equal opportunity in employment practices and partners with Senior Leadership to develop appropriate corrective practices when needed.
